IIT’s Idea Shop in action

Posted on March 9, 2012

It’s fun to see grants that grow into something special. I had another opportunity this week to do so at Illinois Institute of Technology.

IIT’s Idea Shop bought new machines for its Rapid Prototyping Laboratory with funds from a Tellabs Foundation grant. With these new tools, the possibilities for student innovation seem infinite.

New designs in progress included a pill dispenser, bike helmet, and an affordable neonatal bed for use in developing countries.

IIT graciously hosted a demo for us on March 8, 2012. You can see video of some of the equipment in action.

Joe Luciani, Idea Shop Prototyping Manager, shares an accurate foam model of the moon's surface. It's one of many projects enabled by new equipment in the lab.
